On behalf of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Embassy in France, we are very pleased to welcome you to our website! France and the United States share a very long history in agriculture, dating back to 1784 when the U.S. Congress appointed a 41-year-old Thomas Jefferson to be U.S. Minister at the Court of Versailles. In his memoirs, Jefferson wrote: “….I was powerfully aided by all the influence and the energies of the Marquis de la Fayette, who proved himself equally zealous for the friendship and welfare of both nations….” This remains very much at the heart of our mission today. We are “zealous for the friendship and welfare of both our nations.” Despite many differences and disagreements over the years, France and the United States share common values, not least "Liberty, Equality and Fraternity.” Our agricultural sectors are deeply intertwined in research, investment and trade.
We invite you to explore our website and consider ways to connect with us to help write the next chapters of history.
