Biotech crops (mainly cotton, corn and soybeans) approved by USDA, EPA and FDA are widely produced in the United States. However, there is little genetically modified crop grown in France (5,000 ha of biotech corn in 2006) and half of the biotech test plots are destroyed by activists annually. French consumers, food industry and retailers remain reluctant to purchase and distribute GMOs.
